This issue of Kaikodo Journal includes three remembrances of friends who passed away in 2012. Amy and Bob Poster wrote a moving piece, Random Recollections, on their dear friend, the phenomenal David Newman, the London dealer known for his vast expertise in Japanese art and equally for his wit; Mary Ann Rogers presents her favorite personal recollections of the amazing Helmut Brinker–scholar, professor, curator and our most Zen of friends; Carol Conover gives a brief look at her life-long associate whom we can easily dub the Great Dame of Early Chinese Ceramic Mingqi, the wonderfully eccentric collector, Lilly Schloss. A further essay is devoted to an individual, Professor Roderick Whitfield, who lives happily and actively among us, still involved in all manner of scholarly and connoiusseurial activities, as well as other equally pressing enterprises, such as the tending of his and his wife’s extraordinary garden. His student Hwang Yin presents his career and accomplishments in her most lively and informative essay.
