Kaikodo Journal II
Exhibition and Sale of Chinese and Japanese Art
Corresponding to the exhibition held between September 15 and October 26, 1996. 48 early Chinese and Japanese paintings; 39 early Chinese objects (87 color plates). Preface by Howard Rogers. 253 pages.
Whereas subsequent Kaikodo Journal entries were written, with few exception, by the owners of Kaikodo, with assistance from Kaikodo staff, the present catalogue owed much to the contribution of others. Nora Shih Ling-yun transliterated a number of seals and inscriptions and, in the case of the albums by Xiang Shengmo, also provided the basis for the translations regarding that artist’s work. Celia Carrington Rielv provided notes on the source of the composition for the painting by Yun Shouping. The Japanese painting entries benefitted greatly from the corrections and additions of Stephen Addiss and Audrey Yoshiko Seo. Dr Addiss contributed comments to entries on Hokkai and Chikkei, and wrote the entire entries for the paintings by Gyokudo, Toyohiko, and Yuitsu; Dr. Seo commented on the paintings by Keishu, Okvo, and Kaikai, and provided the entire entry for the painting by Jakuchu.
