“Ice and frost still cover them
with icy mist on their joints;
Rain and mist tend to moisten
the branches where the phoenix perches.
Jade-green stands up by the forest pavilion,
as shoots wait to emerge from their sheath,
and see for a thousand feet,
brushing against the spreading clouds.

within the temple on Chiao Mountain the evening bells sound;

the mountain monks rise late to view the moon’s brightness.
P’an Ssu-mu, called Ch’iao-lu.”

in mid-night coolness begins to penetrate.
Le-ju recorded a poem by a Sung person.”

“Mountain rain sprinkles the valley trees,
a solitary village lies within the moist clouds;
Misty shadows become obscure and indistinct,
at the valley entrance evening mist arises.
Painted during the ninth lunar month, fall of the seventh year of the T’ung-chih
reign era in response to a request from Master Kung-shou by Yu-hu Tao-jen,
‘Taoist of the Jade Vase,’ Ch’en Tzu-ch’ing.”
