“Respectfully made on the eleventh day of the fifth lunar month of the bingchen year, the third of the Datong reign-era (537 A.D.), two images made by the Buddhist disciple Zhao Xitan for his deceased mother and father. He presumes to recall those departed spirits and souls who produced a son and led him personally, offering to their compassionate faces the prayer that they ascend into the Three Voids with benefits sufficient for the Great Pool.”
