Colophon by Fang Shishu (1692-1751):
“The ‘Nine Pines’ picture painted by the lofty scholar Ni (Zan) was formerly kept in the Shijing Studio, and I once unrolled and studied it, coming to understand its general principle. Today I saw Zhengquan’s painting with moonlight on rocks and nine pine-trees, and it was like coming on an old friend. The leading theme is also very lively and moving. Written by the retired scholar of Huanshan (Fang Shishu).”
