Hu Zhang [Hu Chang] (1848-1899)

“Autumn Landscape”

Hanging scroll, ink and color on silk
163.0 x 52.0 cm. (64 1/4 x 20 1/2 in.)

“Autumn is high upon the old trees,
with leaves stripped off and fallen into the water;
The sun is gone over the range of peaks,
which now are obscured by mist.

In response to the elegant request of Yujyo, my elder brother in humaneness,
and for his judgement, Hu Tiemei painted this at a guest house in Japan.”
