Enter the Dragon

January 8 - February 10, 2004

Gallery & Web Exhibition

Images of dragons are among the oldest and most powerful symbols in Chinese culture. These mythical creatures were protectors, guardians of wealth, symbols of life-giving rain and emblems of Imperial power. Dragons captured the imagination of Chinese painters, jade carvers, bronze artisans, and ancient sculptors in ceramic and stone. The exhibition, “Enter the Dragon” included many forms of the dragon in several media, from a young dragon, intricately carved as though from life on a jade sword slide to a fierce muscular dragon cast on the reverse of a bronze mirror back.
