Animal Magnetism
January 17 - March 7, 2003
Gallery & Web Exhibition
“Animal Magnetism” was a small selection of paintings and works of art from our current gallery exhibition in New York. Here the denizens of the animal world come to life through the special touch of Chinese and Japanese artists working their magic in a great range of media and over many millennia of artistic creation. Whether based on keen and precise observation or individual vision and interpretation, whether realistically depicted or imaginatively transformed, whether bearing the weight of philosophical meaning or floating with the utter lightness of an ornamental being, each creature is imbued with its own attractiveness, its own animal magnetism. Guests were invited to enter this enchanted world of bronze and jade, of pottery and porcelain, of paper and silk and listen for the lion’s roar, the bleating of sheep, or the haunting silence of the tortoise and the hare.
